Self-Employment Coordinator

The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented individual for the position of Self-Employment Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Director of Labour Market Facilitation, and in accordance with the parameters of the National Ready Willing and Able initiative, the Self-Employment Coordinator will be the focal point in the implementation of a self-employment & entrepreneurship model to increase opportunities and build capacity by working with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder to achieve successful employment outcomes. The Self-Employment Coordinator will collaborate with local employment agencies, small business development agencies, small business owners, autism resource centres, etc. in Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton as required.

The successful candidate will be based in Fredericton, Saint John or Moncton but will also be required to travel throughout the province.  This is a temporary contract position, 37.5 hours per week.

The Self-Employment Coordinator will be required to:

  • Facilitate bi-monthly steering committee meetings with a collaborative network of partners;
  • Build and maintatin business support networks for individuals participating in the project;
  • Work with partner agencies to identify participants for project and to provide information about the project;
  • Support project participants to develop business ideas and opportunities;
  • Assist project participants to access business planning assistance, secure business start-up financing and address requirements for starting a small business or self employment opportunity;
  • Facilitate training and information sessions as required;
  • Maintain open communication and collaboration with Individuals participating in the project, their support networks and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Submit monthly and quarterly reports to the Director of Labour Market Facilitation and advisory committee on project activities and results and participate as required in project evaluation activities.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications and/or demonstrate strength in the following areas:

  • Highly motivated and outcome driven;
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve;
  • Coordination and facilitation skills;
  • Project, management experience;
  • Strong outreach, organizational, communication and team work skills;
  • Experience working with individuals with an Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum disorder is an asset;
  • Experience working in the development of small businesses or self employment opportunities an asset
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

Qualified candidates will also possess the following requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle necessary for work related duties and the ability to travel as required
  • Knowledge of social media applications and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check;
