On this Giving Tuesday, Inclusion NB is pleased to share that our work has been recognized by the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation. We are receiving a grant of $150,000 for our Building Caregiver Capacity & Leadership for Inclusion Project. This is the largest single gift in our history.
“For over 65 years, Inclusion NB (formerly the New Brunswick Association for Community Living) has been building caregiver capacity across the province,” said Sarah Wagner, Executive Director, Inclusion NB. “This game-changing gift will strengthen our movement to create informed, person-centered leaders to support people with a disability to live a full life in New Brunswick.”
It is essential that those who are supporting individuals who have an intellectual or developmental disability have access to resources, training and services to enhance their own skills and knowledge. This project will further develop these leaders who are dedicated to ensuring that all individuals who have a disability can achieve their goals with the supports they need.
“Looking to make a meaningful difference, Petro‑Canada™ asked Canadians about the issues that matter most to them,” said Leila Fenc, Executive Director, Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation. “Family Caregiving came up time and time again. Family caregivers often devote their lives to helping their loved ones and it’s a challenging role that many step into unexpectedly. We believe that caregivers need support too, and that’s why we are focusing our efforts here.”
This funding has enabled Inclusion NB to hire an additional Family Support Facilitator and extend our reach to further meet the needs of family caregivers across the province. In addition, the project, which began in October 2022, will support New Brunswick family caregivers and their communities by:
- Providing support to 450 family members/caregivers who are caring for a person with an intellectual or developmental disability:
- Providing education and resources, in both official languages, on facilitating an inclusive life and person-centered approaches to supporting a person with a disability to up to 75 caregivers: and
- Assisting 25 caregivers to access essential community supports for persons with a disability in the areas of mental health, recreation and housing.
