The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) joins our national counterpart, Inclusion Canada, in backing the statement recently released by three human rights experts from the United Nations condemning access to medical assistance in dying based on having a disability.
This statement reinforces what disability rights organizations, including NBACL, have been saying for many months. Bill C-7, which would allow people with a disability to access medical assistance in dying because of their disability, is dangerous and discriminatory. It is based on incorrect and ableist assumptions that life with a disability is not worth living.
With the support of national and international human and disability rights organizations, NBACL is calling on Canada’s senators to put a stop to Bill C-7, and show the world that Canada is still a human rights leader.
